Powder coating

Powder coating
Powder coating is an electrostatic process during which steel, galvanised steel and aluminium are coated in any desired colour. Powder coating is impact-proof and wear-resistant, it is colourful and aesthetic and has a long life span.

Powder coating in combination with hot-dip galvanising, the so-called duplex system, offers the most sustainable protection in the fight against corrosion. Duplex offers perfect resistance to extreme weather conditions and results in a life span that is longer than the added duration of both systems separately.

Powder coating is widely applicable to, among others, balcony railings, wall panels, doors and windows, garden fences, fences, noise-protection screens, street furniture such as shelters, bicycle racks and traffic lights. Next to these outdoor applications, there are also lots of indoor applications possible.

The powder coating process
In powder coating the pre-treatment of the steel, galvanised steel or aluminium will determine to a considerable extent the quality of the final result. Every substrate requires a specific approach, for instance a mechanical pre-treatment by way of spraying for steel, chromating or a finely sprayed coating for galvanised steel or a chemical pre-treatment through hexavalent chromating for aluminium.

The finishing depends on the application and various systems are possible. There are epoxy and polyester powder coating systems. Epoxy powder leads to a better wetting and chemical resistance. Polyester powder is very suited for outdoor applications thanks to its specific features as to flowing, adhesion and gloss preservation.
